Set your mind on things of God
Reflecting on Mark 8:33, where Jesus in front of his disciples rebukes and calls out Peter for focusing on the things of this earth and not the things of His kingdom.
But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” Mark 8:33
This command of “Setting our eyes on things of God and not of man” is scattered all over the Scriptures. We see Jesus address the same thing in both Matthew & Luke, but we also see it from way back in the Old Testament Deuteronomy & 1 Chronicles.
“And when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you.” Deuteronomy 30:1
Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God may be brought into a house built for the name of the Lord.” 1 Chronicles 22:19
I’m learning in my life that it is a daily rhythm to seek God and it’s a journey to get to know Him in my life.
Daily I have a choice to set my mind on the things not yet seen and project my eyes towards His kingdom ahead. Reminding myself of the promises He has made and that He can be trusted. That the truth is pursuing Him is the greatest satisfaction of my life and that the overflow really is His presence and blessings little and big daily.
I GET to be a child of God
I GET to serve Him with my life
I GET to be in relationship with Him
I GET to set my mind on things above and NOT on things of man.
AMEN.
